Couples Counselling
Couples counselling offers partners and spouses a safe space to explore their issues or a relationship crisis. It also often is about re-connecting within the relationship and strengthen a bond that may have become weakened or strained. Sometimes couples experience unexpected changes, challenges within their families or life-changing situations they wish to come to terms with and process.
Counselling will support the long-term management of changes couples may face. It is always important to establish each partner’s expectations, wishes and values for the relationship, which at times may have been kept unexpressed and unspoken. This can be intertwined with unhelpful communication patterns or difficulties to manage own emotions. I will assist couples to find ‘more’ understanding for each other, possibly perceiving the other partner more comprehensively through providing the opportunity to find ‘missing pieces’ and each other’s answers collaboratively. I will support identifying couples’ strengths whilst exploring the areas of their relationship they would like to negotiate, re-establish or change together. Couples counselling does require a level of commitment and does not have to be ‘hard work’. It can positively retrieve and evaluate aspects of the relationship that may have become overlooked or lost. However, sometimes couples may discover that they no longer wish to stay together. In that case counselling can help to find ways partners would like to separate and move on within agreed expectations.
